Who cares about ‘model prescription’

Mumbai – Doctors should write in a legible handwriting the prescription for their patients and even for chemists. Such prescriptions should have all necessary information about the doctor and it should also contain the names of generic medicines affordable to the patients. But, it has come to notice that doctors are not following the guidelines laid down in this regard. The issue has also underlined the threat to public health. If the state government assigns this responsibility to the FDA or IMC, such things can be controlled, opines the Maharashtra Medical Council. While some doctors said that awareness needs to be done among doctors themselves. The State government has been neglecting the implementation of guidelines set by the FDA two years ago. Now, it will be interesting to see what action government takes in this connection.
