As the COVID-19 situation worsens and patients are facing a shortage of beds and oxygen supply, 25 classrooms of Rustomjee International School, Dahisar has been converted into a new Covid care centre.

According to reports, each of these classrooms has six beds converted and this centre will be starting soon with all facilities for patients.

Meanwhile, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been making all efforts to avoid the shortage of beds for coronavirus patients.

Even as various state government agencies are gearing to set up jumbo Covid centres, the BMC will be adding 200 ICU beds in the next two to three days to tackle the acute shortage. It has also been decided to shut the Mulund jumbo centre for vaccination so that it can accommodate beds for patients.

Moreover, due to the fear of another lockdown, only a handful of workers have chosen to stay back and work at a factory manufacturing PPE kits at Dharavi in Mumbai. Srivastav, the owner, had to convert his dress material manufacturing factory into one which now makes PPE kits for BMC health workers and medics.

According to BMC data, about 90 per cent of cases are concentrated in high-rise buildings, while slums account for just 10 per cent.
