In an initiative to make the railway platforms passenger friendly, the Mumbai Division of Western Railways (WR) has commissioned three lifts and two escalators in the month of July.

In an initiative to make the railway platforms passenger friendly, the Mumbai Division of Western Railways (WR) has commissioned three lifts and two escalators in the month of July. 

According to the WR chief PRO, out of the three new lifts, two have been provided at Vasai Road station, and one at Dahanu Road station. Whereas, the two new escalators are at Andheri and Vasai Road stations.

Under this initiative with such continuous efforts, WR’s Mumbai division has successfully commissioned 98 escalators and 47 lifts till now. 

Moreover, with this move, the railway is expecting to control the trespassing of tracks.

Officials stated that earlier, Vasai Road had four escalators and one lift. Now, the number of escalators has gone up to five and lift up to three. Besides, one more escalator will also be installed at Vasai shortly.

Further, the WR plans to install 18 escalators and 12 lifts by the end of this financial year.

If reports are to be believed, Vasai Road sees a footfall of around 2 lakhs.

On the other hand, the Western Railways (WR) recently claimed that they have replaced the faulty sensors which led to the malfunction. Last week, on Thursday, July 28, the doors were opened manually by railway personnel from Borivali to Virar railway stations. The doors of the AC local train did not open at Andheri, Borivali, Dahisar, Mira Road, Bhayandar, Naigaon, Nalasopara and Virar railway stations.
