The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, India’s longest sea bridge, will soon be monitored by over 374 high-tech cameras, and an artificial intelligence (AI) system. The project will cost approximately INR 520 crore.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is responsible for overseeing the project’s implementation. Now, state-of-the-art cameras have been installed on it. They are capable of detecting even minor traffic offences. The pan, tilt, and zoom cameras provide a 360-degree viewability of the cars on the bridge.

The project includes 130 CCTV surveillance systems, 36 under-bridge surveillance systems, and 190 AI-based video analytics. Other features include six emergency call boxes, 12 speed cameras in the section, and a vehicle-activated speed display.

Strabag Austria is tasked with the operation and maintenance of the bridge, including toll collection. The work includes building a toll plaza, fully electrifying the Sea link, purchasing and operating CCTV cameras, operations and maintenance, and civil work, which includes building the operation and control centre and the RCC road.

On January 12, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated this 21.5-kilometre-long bridge. It significantly reduced travel between South Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

The total length of the bridge is 21.5 km, with 16 km stretching over the sea.
