In a survey conducted by the Thane Municipal Administration to prevent building collapse accidents during the monsoon season, it has been revealed that 4,297 buildings are dangerous in the entire city. Out of which 86 buildings are extremely dangerous buildings and 20 of them have been demolished. The demolition work of the remaining 66 buildings is going on through the municipality.
Thane city, Wagle Estate, Kalwa and Mumbra areas have a large number of illegal buildings. Also, official buildings in the Naupada area have been destroyed. There is a possibility of such buildings collapsing during monsoons and causing heavy loss of life. Such incidents have happened before and citizens have lost their lives. To prevent such incidents, the municipal administration conducts a survey of dangerous buildings in the city every year before monsoon.
Hazardous buildings are classified into four stages: C-1, C-2A, C2B and C3. This year too, the municipal administration has recently conducted a survey of the buildings in the city before the monsoon. In this, 4,297 buildings in the entire city are dangerous. This includes C-1 hazardous buildings. The residents of these buildings are rehabilitated elsewhere and the buildings are demolished.
This year too, the municipal administration has started the demolition of 86 dangerous buildings in the city and 22 of them have been demolished. The residents of the remaining 66 buildings have been issued eviction notices and as the buildings are being vacated, their construction is being demolished.
Naupada- most dangerous buildings in Kopri
There are 86 extremely dangerous and 192 hazardous buildings in the Thane municipal area. Out of them, Naupada-Kopri section alone has 52 very dangerous and 26 dangerous buildings. However, there are no high-risk buildings in the Wagle Estate and Diva area. Also there are 3 dangerous buildings in Wagle Estate and 2 in Diva area.
Hazardous buildings in Thane Municipal area are classified into four stages namely C-1, C-2A, C-2B and C-3. C-1 means uninhabitable and extremely dangerous buildings requiring immediate eviction, C-2A means vacating the building with structural repairs, C-2B means structural repairs without vacating the building, and C-3 means minor repairs to buildings. Therefore, although there are 419 dangerous buildings in the list of C-2B and C-3, residents will continue living there.
