10 proposals for construction and repair in a 150-metre radius around the Thane Central Jail were approved on Tuesday. Therefore, the construction and repair work of the citizens will be accelerated.

Creation of a buffer zone of 20 metres will be facilitated while allowing construction in a 150 metre perimeter area from the outer bank wall of Thane Central Jail. Also, the Standing Advisory Committee has been entrusted with the responsibility of advising on the direct visibility of sensitive areas of the jail, ensuring that there is no danger. For this, a Standing Advisory Committee of Jails and Municipalities has been constituted as per the directions of the Home Department. The meeting of this committee was chaired by the chairman of the committee and Thane Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar.

In this meeting, the City Development Department submitted a total of 10 proposals. It included proposals for redevelopment, new construction, church repairs, construction of an expanded school building, etc. This committee met for the first time after August 2017. This has given impetus to the construction projects which have been pending for years. Also, the residents of buildings in dangerous condition have been relieved.

According to these proposals, a team constituted for inspection visited all the proposed construction sites and took information about it. Also, the area was filmed by drones. A study was done to see what part of the prison can be seen from the proposed height of the buildings. All this information was presented as a proposal in the meeting. The committee then considered each proposal and unanimously approved all the proposals subject to terms and conditions.

Occupancy certificate should be given to the proposed construction after strict compliance with the rules regarding distance from the jail, regulations regarding 'dead wall', roof slope work and roof access ban. There should be no fault in this, Chairman of the Committee and Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar explained.

At the same time, if the Superintendent of Jails finds any violation of the conditions in the construction of the proposals approved in the meeting of this committee, he should report the same to the Municipal Corporation action will be taken accordingly, Commissioner Bangar said.
