Under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP-3B), projects proposed by the Mumbai Railway Development Corporation, with a total length of 136.652 km and an estimated cost of INR 14,907 crore, have been approved. Approval was also granted for bearing 50 percent of the financial burden, i.e., INR 7,453.73 crore.
Under the Mumbai Urban Transport Project (MUTP) 3B, new railway corridors will be constructed to enhance suburban connectivity. This includes the construction of the third and fourth railway lines between Badlapur and Karjat (32.46 km), a fourth line between Asangaon and Kasara (34.966 km), and a new suburban railway corridor between Panvel and Vasai (69.226 km). The implementation of this suburban railway project will be carried out by the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC).
This project has been approved as an "Urgent Public Project" and an "Ambitious Urban Transport Project." The state government will bear 50% of the total project cost. Additionally, funds generated from the development of railway land in Bandra (East) will be adjusted as part of the state's share, as needed, while the remaining amount will be deposited into the Urban Transport Fund (UTF).
