The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that it is undertaking structural repairs of five bridges and two foot-overbridges in Mumbai. The project will cost ₹11.51 crores and will be completed within 18 months, officials said.

A contractor has reportedly been identified for this particular project. It is currently pending approval from the Standing Committee as Wednesday’s meeting didn’t bear fruit. The civic body decided to conduct the repairs after a structural audit found that the city’s bridges and the FOBs are in poor condition.

The repairs will be conducted at Sitaram Selvam Y Bridge (Byculla), Annasaheb Patil Bridge (Byculla East) and Olivant Rail Over Bridge (Mazgaon). Additionally, two FOBs near Bhandari Street Police Booth and Masjid East-West near the Masjid Railway Station (Masjid Bander) will undergo repairs.

Given that the three bridges are crucial for north-south travel, commuters are expected to face trouble while crossing the bridge in the near future. The bridges connect to crucial locations like Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT), Dadar, Mahalaxmi, and Parel.

“These bridges are quite old and the structural audit found that they need to be strengthened. Since these are busy roads, they need to be repaired as soon as possible,” a senior official said.
