According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to not accept recommendations to alter the present alignment of the coastal road by moving open spaces near the seaside. Locals wanted to do this to make it more citizen-friendly. It has been reported that the BMC refused to do it because of technical difficulties and the considerable impact on the project.
Based on accounts, the BMC’s Coastal Road Department sent a written reply to architects and urban designers wherein it elaborated on how over 50 per cent of the road's physical progress has been attained. Therefore, in accordance with the current alignment and other challenges such as amendments in Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) clearance and wildlife NOC, the recommendations cannot be taken into consideration.

Narratives suggest that Mumbai-based architects and urban designers had written a letter to Maharashtra chief minister Uddhav Thackeray and the civic body. The letter recommended that all open spaces curated in the project should be moved near the sea and the road inside.
In addition to this, the architects also offered to assist the civic authority in making the alterations to see to it that car users are not impacted.
The BMC's reply reportedly added that the provision of interchanges to the road is not technically possible. The body says that the current alignment fulfils the geometric requirements of alignment as per IRC Code, cited accounts.
Reports are doing the rounds that the architects are now considering replying to the BMC letter.
