Unhappy with the construction of DN Nagar-Mandale Metro-2B corridor route (D N Nagar to Mankhurd), Khar, JVPD and Bandra residents are demanding Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) to construct underground metro-2B rather than elevated metro.

Residents who had gathered at Jamnabai Narsee School in JVPD on Sunday to voice their protest and announced that they would get on the streets and protest on September 11, 2018. Along with this, they have pledged to exercise NOTA (none of the above) option, if their demand is not accepted by the government.

Currently, the Bombay High Court (HC) is hearing three public interest litigations (PIL) that have been filed by the resident groups demanding Metro-2B be constructed underground instead of the elevated Metro.

Along with Shiv Sena MP Gajanan Kirtikar, former Rajya Sabha MP Javed Akhtar, eminent architects and urban planners PK Das and Nitin Killawala were present at the meeting.

For several years, the residents have been demanding that Metro-2B be constructed underground as it passes via narrow streets like SV Road and Link Road. The MMRDA had agreed to go underground due to the protest but plans were changed four years ago.
