The Bombay High Court recently placed a stay on the construction work of Metro 3 car shed at the new site at Kanjurmarg. Officials were asked to stop the work immediately and wait for the orders. However, as per reports, the state government has now started considering a new site at the Bandra-Kurla complex, which might be used for the car shed for Metro 3 and Metro 6 lines

Earlier, the government led by former CM Devendra Fadnavis had fixed the site for this project at Aarey, however, once the new government was formed, the work at Aarey was stopped. The decision was taken after the new CM, Uddhav Thackeray, took charge and observed protest and agitation from environmentalists. After thorough consideration, he declared more than 800 acres of Aarey land as a reserve forest and shifted the metro car shed project from Aarey to Kanjurmarg.

Reports then stated that the land was given to MMRDA at no cost, however, the opposition party slammed the government regarding the matter. The Central Government also sent letters to the government regarding the newly assigned land and the ownership claimed. Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) also faced backlash regarding the cost behind the construction of a car shed.

Following this, the Centre moved the Bombay High Court and challenged the decision regarding the ownership of the land claimed in Kanjurmarg. The decisions regarding the matters were taken at a hearing on Wednesday, whereby MMRDA was asked to stop the work immediately, as per the stay.

This decision is said to have increased concerns and a dilemma for the government, whereby the department is now exploring the option of constructing a Metro 3 car shed on the proposed site for the bullet train in the Bandra Kurla complex, to ensure the Metro work is not affected.

It is believed that the ongoing court hearing may take time and the government is focused on the construction of the car shed, which as per reports, will not be delayed until then.
