Maharashtra government has requested the Center for approval to rehabilitate slums situated near the Juhu Airport in Mumbai. The Airport Authority of India (AAI) owns 25 acres of property next to the airport, which has been home to roughly 50,000 slum inhabitants for the past 50 years.

The AAI intends to use the site for the construction of residential and office space. As part of the government's initiative to provide "Housing for All" to the residents of the slums. That region includes neighbourhoods including Shivaji Nagar, Indira Nagar, and Nehru Nagar.

To conduct the slum redevelopment program, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has written to Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to request a no-objection certificate (NOC). According to the letter, the AAI had provided its NOC for almost 8,000 dwellings after the Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) performed a house-to-house biometric survey in these regions. In order to prepare Annexure 2, which contains a list of the surveyed dwellings' eligible and ineligible units in accordance with state government regulations, an NOC is now required.

The prime objective of the program is to offer in-place housing to all qualified unit owners as per the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of "Housing for All". The AAI can only use the aforementioned plot of land if it has been cleared of slums and developed so that the AAI can also have room for offices or living quarters. This way, AAI will be able to obtain space for its intended use, the state government will be able to realize its objective of a slum-free Mumbai, and the slum inhabitants will receive permanent homes as a result.

Juhu airport, where the nation's first airport was inaugurated by JRD Tata under the supervision of the Bombay Flying Club, currently spans 428 acres and is owned by the AAI.
