Last week, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) proclaimed the repair work of 14 bridges in Mumbai, now it looks to repair 14 other bridges, highlighted reports. The resolution is believed to have been undertaken in light of the audit conducted post the collapse of the Himalaya Bridge in 2019.

Based on accounts, 14 more bridges were decided to be repaired since the audit found them to be vulnerable. A report by the Hindustan Times quoted an official from the civic authority’s bridges department who elaborated on how there are in aggregate 50 small bridges that are set to be repaired, reconstructed, with similar activities set to be undertaken for the Bandra skywalk in the days ahead.

The aggregate expenditure of the work on the 14 bridges is estimated to be nearly INR 5.45cr with the activities to be completed by the end of 2022. Of the 14 bridges, three are major repairs, the other 11 are minor.

The bridges for minor repairs include TB Hospital on Acharya Donde Marg, foot overbridge at AK Marg in Mahim, the bridge on Arthur Road in Chinchpokli. 11 bridges for major repairs comprise Sion Subway north and south side, Sion Hospital flyover, Nanalal D Mehta flyover, Tulpule flyover, Sarasvati School foot overbridge, Sion pumping station foot overbridge, GTB station foot overbridge, JK chemical culvert, Lovergrove culvert, Cleaveland culvert and Kamlanagar Vehicular culvert.
