According to the latest reports, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) is looking to redevelop and install new bus shelters at 105 different spots in Mumbai’s suburbs. This is believed to be part of the civic authority’s Tactical Urbanism (TU) plan.
The civic body looks to maximize the utilization of public spaces to make them accessible to citizens. 105 locations have been earmarked by the BMC in the eastern and western suburbs. These new bus shelters will be put up on the footpaths by replacing the current ones.
Guardian minister of Mumbai Suburban District, Aaditya Thackeray took to Twitter saying, “We’re revamping the bus stops in Mumbai Suburban District to make them more accommodative, comfortable, safe! 105 bus stops approved already, and will be taking up all the others this year too.”

The prevalent shelters are a decade old built from iron and steel, while the new ones will reportedly be movable metal benches clamped on the footpath. They will also have a transparent enclosure that will not obstruct the visibility of passengers.
According to senior officials of the civic authority, these shelters will consume less space, have an aesthetic design and be visually appealing, cited narratives.
