Mumbai Cyclists Propose Two Permanent Bicycle Lanes in Worli and Malad

Cycling enthusiasts have charted a new design for the aforementioned bicycle stands. Further, the Mumbai Bicycle Mayor is reportedly working on a cycling map for Mumbai which will soon be sent over for approvals

Cyclists part of the ‘Cycle Chala, City Bacha’ campaign are proposing the setting up of two permanent bicycle lanes that can be used all days of the week. The group is proposing one lane at Mindspace in Malad and the second one at Worli’s Jamboori Maidan.

A total of 24 bicycle councillors from each civic ward of Mumbai have further identified 1,200 bicycle stands in the city while also pitching a ‘car-free day’ event to be celebrated every month across the city. 

It is reported that the two proposals are in the process of being submitted to Mayor Kishori Pednekar for approvals.

“We are serious about the dedicated neighbourhood bike lanes at two places in Mumbai and having 1,200 stands with each stand/unit accommodating five cycles. We propose two units at each location which means having 10 cycles per location,” Mumbai Bicycle Mayor, Firoza Suresh said.

“We need proper infrastructure which will encourage more cyclists to hit the roads,” she added.
