Maharashtra State Chief Minister, Uddhav Thackeray, on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, inaugurated the Colaba Conversation Conference held in the city. The conference was organized online on social media platforms, by the Government of Maharashtra and the Observer Research Foundation.

While addressing the gathering, CM stated that our goal collectively should be to develop affordable and environmentally friendly transport, and added that the definition of development would be complete if we do not consider preserving our environment.

Present at the occasion along with the CM were eminent dignitaries who discussed on various subjects related to the policies affecting the city, the state and the world. As per reports, the dialogue hosted over 70 speakers from more than 20 countries for a range of discussions on diplomacy, global cities, digital futures and green finance, and a special focus on geoeconomics of the Indo-Pacific.

Akshay Mathur, Director, Observer Research Foundation, gave the introductory speech, while Sujay Joshi, Chairman, gave the welcome address.

Sharing his thought, CM Thackeray said that the coronavirus pandemic slowed down the lives of many people around the world. While it was a challenging period, it has also taught us the way to move forward, and also to take care of the environment. Everyone in the world wants development, but one needs to learn the session from the pandemic and consider the opportunity for development from a different perspective.

Adding more he said that the government is focusing on affordable housing and environmentally friendly transportation, basis which the decision was taken to operate BEST's electric buses in Mumbai. Besides this, the Metro is also being constructed keeping the environmental focus in mind, whereby more than 800 acres of forest land in the heart of Mumbai, was declared as reserve forests.

Though there is no definitive drug for coronavirus, the oxygen we inhale from the environment has saved many lives, and this has therefore helped us understand the importance of oxygen in the future and how much we have to take care of nature. He emphasised on the development in the financial capital and added that despite its beaches, parks, caves and forests, everyone in the city is paying attention to the sustainable development of Mumbai.
