In a first of its kind, Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway To Have Toll Only At Exit Point

In a first of its kind, the commuters using Mumbai-Nagpur expressway, after it is thrown open to public, will have to pay toll tax only once that is while exiting.

According to reports, the Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray prosperity corridor between Mumbai and Nagpur will deduct your toll only at the exit gates and not while entering it.

On majority state or national highways, a one-time or half of the toll is collected at the entrance. Such a system of use-and-pay is being introduced for the first time in India, said an official.

However, the amount will facilitate the payment of toll only for that section of the 701km super expressway.

At the entrance, only the vehicle will be registered besides noting the vehicle’s entry time, location by kilometre, and Fastag registration number. All lanes will be Fastag-enabled. However, all payment modes will be open for motorists — like cash, card, or digital payment options via cellphones.

Explaining further, official said that if one calculates the toll as per the kilometres travelled on the super expressway, they will have to multiply the kilometres travelled with the present toll rate for cars and SUVs which is INR 1.73 per km. The toll rate for commercial vehicles is INR 5.85 per kilometre. This toll rate will go up for motorists every three years and is rounded off to the nearest digit (0 or 5).

For Mumbaikars, travelling to Igatpuri (Pimpri exit), Nashik (Gonde exit), Aurangabad or Ellora (Maliwada exit) and Lonar crater /Shegaon/Karanja Lad guru temple via Sindakhedraja exit, it will cost INR 135, INR 235, INR 440, and INR 625 respectively.

Reports stated that the one-way toll between Mumbai and Nagpur is INR 1,215 which will go up 16 per cent every three years. The toll will directly go to MSRDC instead of the toll contractors or agents.

Earlier, it was mentioned that it would take 40 years for this expressway to recover the INR 55,335 crores cost.

For those unversed, the inauguration date of the much-awaited Mumbai-Nagpur Expressway hit another roadblock hampering its commencement, which was expected in May.

The opening of the first phase of the Samruddhi Mahamarg expressway was slated for May 2. Under this, a 201-km stretch between Nagpur and Shelu Bazar in Washim, was set to be thrown open to the public.
