The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) will soon see a bridge connection that will connect Chirle to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The proposal has already received approval. The project will be worth about INR 1,000 crore. Work on the project is also expected to commence shortly.

Metropolitan Commissioner Dr. Sanjay Mukherjee announced the approval of the MTHL connector project on social media. It will comprise two elevated, six-lane roadways. The first will link Chirle to Gavhan Phata, and the other will connect Palaspe to the motorway.

The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) also plans to connect the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust (JNPT) Highway and the MTHL with a six-lane elevated connector. The connector will have up-and-down ramps at Gavhan Phata and an interchange at Chirle.

The project includes the creation of an interchange near the Mumbai-Pune Motorway and the expansion of the current NH48 to six lanes. In March 2023, the MMRDA called for bids to construct a 7.35-kilometre elevated corridor from the JNPT exit at Kon village in Panvel to the Chirle interchange in Ulwe.

The project is expected to be completed in about 30 months. It will provide a significant boost to NH348 and NH48 road connectivity. The recent opening of the MTHL, the country's longest sea bridge, has brought Mumbai closer to Panvel, JNPT, and Navi Mumbai.

The completed link will benefit drivers from south Mumbai heading to Lonavala and Pune. They will no longer need to cross the Vashi toll plaza or Sion-Panvel highway to access the Mumbai-Pune Motorway.

The MTHL project offers better connectivity to several significant destinations, including the projected Navi Mumbai International Airport, JNPT, the Mumbai-Pune Motorway, and the Mumbai-Goa Highway.
