The Eknath Shinde Cabinet approved the construction of a Central Park with international standard facilities in place of Mahalakshmi Race Course. Central Park will be built on 120 acres of the 211 acres of the race course. It will be developed on the lines of parks in New York in America and London in England. It will build BMC.


Uddhav Thackeray MLA Aditya Thackeray alleged that Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, BJP and contractors are trying to grab the land of race course in Mahalakshmi. Ignoring this, the cabinet on Monday approved the construction of a central park in the race course.



BMC will build stables for horses
BMC will spend INR 100 crore to construct stables for horses on 91 acres of land. On 30 January, 76 per cent of the members of the Royal Western India Turf Club voted in favor of a park on the racecourse. After that it was decided to build the Central Park here.

BMC will recover the dues

This plot of Mahalakshmi Race Course was leased in 1914 to the Royal Western India Turf Club (RWIC), the race course management. This lease has expired in 2013. The BMC has not collected rent from the club since then. Now the government has said that the BMC will collect the arrears at a rate fixed by the revenue and forest department.


Oxygen Park for Mumbaikars

Speaking at the inauguration of Coastal Road, Chief Minister Shinde said that a park will be constructed in 320 acres around Mahalakshmi. The park will be built on 120 acres under the race course and around 200 acres under the coastal road. It will be the oxygen park of Mumbaikars. The CM said that we have assured the Union Environment Department that no construction will take place on the site created by the bridge over the sea for the coastal road. There we will provide garden and other facilities to people.
