This transformative project, serving as a multi-modal airport, aims to accommodate an impressive 90 million passengers by 2032. With seamless connectivity to various transportation systems, including the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link, the coastal road, and the metro, the airport is poised to revolutionize travel in the region.

CM Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and other BJP leaders conducted an aerial inspection of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) work recently. Fadnavis took to Twitter to share the same and mentioned, "Minister Uday Samant together did an aerial inspection of the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) work this morning. After that, reviewed the work at the terminal and runway. Senior officials from CIDCO and NMIA presented us the works in progress. “The work of the airport should be completed within the stipulated time. The airport should be the best in terms of quality as per international standards, Indian aesthetics, utility and eco-friendliness,” I directed. In 2017 we started the work of Navi Mumbai Airport. It is expected to become operational in 2024."

"I have no doubt that Navi Mumbai International Airport will be a milestone in that regard and this airport will usher in the development of a new ‘Third Mumbai’ after Mumbai and Navi Mumbai," he added

Ambitious Project Initiated by the Adani Group

The proposed airport, which was initiated in 2017, is spearheaded by the Adani Group. Recognizing the need for enhanced infrastructure to meet future air traffic demands, the group has undertaken this ambitious undertaking to address the mounting pressure on the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. With their expertise and vision, the Adani Group aims to establish a cutting-edge aviation hub in the heart of Navi Mumbai.

The airport will be having state-of-the-art construction, eco-friendly design, and strategic location Situated at Ulwe in Navi Mumbai, at the center of the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR), the project is being constructed in four progressive phases with the initial two phases  on track for completion soon marking a significant milestone in its development. Spanning over 1,160 acres, the project encompasses a vast area to cater to the growing demands of air travel and will handle 2.5 million tonnes of cargo by 2032, providing crucial support to both passenger and freight transportation needs.

Architecture and Infrastructure

Inspired by India's national flower, the Lotus, the airport terminal boasts a visually stunning design when viewed from above. Addressing Growing Air Traffic Demands

Meanwhile, the airport emerges as a much-needed solution to the escalating air traffic demands in the region. With the existing Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport facing capacity constraints, this ambitious project will help alleviate the pressure and cater to the anticipated surge in air travel. By offering enhanced connectivity and state-of-the-art facilities, the airport aims to fulfill the region's evolving transportation requirements and support economic growth.
