The long-pending project of Maharashtra Bhavan, which has remained on paper for nearly 15 years, is finally set to take off. CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat informed Loksatta that the groundbreaking ceremony for Maharashtra Bhavan will be held in Vashi on Friday, in the presence of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and other dignitaries.

For years, efforts have been made to establish Navi Mumbai as a key destination for citizens of Maharashtra. Various entities and political figures, including Manda Mhatre, have actively pushed for the construction of the Maharashtra Bhavan. CIDCO has now initiated the necessary actions to move the project forward, with an estimated INR 121 crores to be spent on the construction of the Bhavan on an approximately eight-thousand-square-meter plot in Vashi’s Sector 30A.

CIDCO has already allocated plots in Vashi for state buildings, and many states have successfully erected their structures. A similar demand had been raised for Maharashtra Bhavan. In response, CIDCO reserved a two-acre plot near Vashi railway station for the project. After many years of inactivity, Manda Mhatre revived the pursuit, with several political parties backing the cause. CIDCO Chairman Sanjay Shirsat expressed confidence that the modern facility will be completed within the next few years.
