Environment-friendly groups ‘Save Aarey’ and ‘Save Tree’ are taking a dig at Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis for making amendments in Maharashtra Private Forest (Acquisition) Act-1975. They alleged that the state made changes seven months back and kept in under wraps.

According to the new law, only two trees will be planted after cutting one. The earlier law mentioned about planting three tees, and this move has made the 'Save Aarey' and 'Save Tree' groups are unhappy. The case may now move to High Court.

Talking about the same, Zoru Bathena, a member of 'Save Tree' group, said, “In the name of redevelopment, the state is hampering the environment, We feel that we will not get any justice from the state and so we have decided to file a petition against the state.”

Adding to the same, Stalin Dayanand, Founder of Vanshakti, said, “This decision is wrong. Is the state planning to uproot every single tree from the city and transform it into a desert? We will not let this happen. On the behalf of Vanshakti NGO, we will raise voice.”
