The much-awaited Narangi Flyover in Virar was inaugurated on Friday, bringing relief to commuters after years of delay. The flyover was formally opened by Palghar Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik.
The project is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion between Virar East and West, a long-standing issue for residents in the rapidly urbanising Vasai-Virar region. With increasing population and vehicle movement, the existing transport infrastructure had become inadequate.
The Public Works Department (PWD) had launched the flyover project nearly six to seven years ago at Railway Crossing No. 41 near Narangi to improve east-west connectivity. However, the work faced repeated delays due to technical difficulties.
After overcoming the hurdles, the flyover has now been opened for vehicular traffic. Officials said the bridge would help streamline movement across the railway crossing, where commuters earlier faced long traffic jams and delays.
Several dignitaries attended the inauguration ceremony, including Mayor Ajiv Patil, MP Hemant Savara, MLAs Rajan Naik, Sneha Dubey-Pandit, and Rajendra Gavit, along with District Collector Indurani Jakhar and Municipal Commissioner Prithviraj B. P..
Speaking at the event, Ganesh Naik acknowledged the inconvenience caused to citizens due to the delay in completing the project. He said technical issues had slowed down construction, but the opening of the flyover would now provide major relief to daily commuters.
Authorities said the new flyover is expected to save at least 30 minutes of travel time for commuters travelling between Virar East and West. The project is also likely to reduce fuel consumption and support local economic and commercial activity in the area.
