The Maharashtra government intends to bring in more investment in the state amid the deteriorating economic situation due to the coronavirus pandemic. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has asked the state industries department to prepare an action plan for attracting investments and effective implementation of ‘ease of doing business’ measures.

Thackeray was speaking with senior officials at a review meeting of ‘ease of doing business’ initiative. He said that Maharashtra’s strength to get more investments should be maintained.

“Maharashtra attracts the highest number of investments in the country. This would be maintained if the ‘ease of doing business’ initiative is implemented successfully,” Thackeray said while asking the officials to draw an effective plan for it.

The Chief Minister said that Maharashtra should be a role model for other states in terms of getting investments. In the meeting, officials apprised Thackeray about the initiatives and measures taken by the state before.

As a part of Magnetic Maharashtra 2.0 earlier, the Maharashtra government had sign 12 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with global companies for investments worth ₹16,000 crores.

Thackeray had assured that new businesses will get all forms of assistance and said that 40,000 acre of land is ready for new business and companies. Of the 12 companies that signed an MoU with Maharashtra, three were from China.

However, following border tensions between India and China shortly after the conclusion of the investor’s meet in June, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government decided to put the MoUs signed with the Chinese companies on hold.
