Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) is carrying out restoration work to repair the roadways that were dug up or blocked off for Metro 3-related construction in the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz corridor. The restoration work is being done in stages. It involves the restoration of utilities, and it has already begun at 17 spots along the route of Metro line 3.

The restoration process has begun at Cuffe Parade, Vidhan Bhavan, Churchgate, CSMT, Mahalaxmi, Siddhivinayak, Santacruz, Terminal 1, Sahar, Marol Naka, MIDC, and SEEPZ underground Metro stations.

The roads are expected to be repaired by the end of May. After its completion, a total of 66,625 square metres with a cumulative length of 6.338 kilometres will be added back to Mumbai roads. This is expected to boost vehicular traffic flow starting in the monsoon of 2023.

Meanwhile, the remaining 5.621 km of the road will be repaired until June 2024, and 90,224 sq m of pavement and road space will be open to the public.

The restoration work is an essential step towards the completion of the Mumbai Metro 3 line, which will connect the city from north to south.

The work on this line is nearly 80 per cent finished; this includes 85.2% progress made in the first phase section between Aarey to the BKC and 76% completion of the second phase between the BKC and Cuffe Parade. The car shed building for the Mumbai Metro 3 line is 53.8% completed.

The MMRCL intends to launch the underground corridor in two stages, with the first stage from Sariput Nagar to BKC and the second stage from Cuffe Parade to the remaining part. Once completed, the Mumbai Metro 3 line will offer a faster and efficient mode of transport to Mumbaikars, as it is expected to ease the traffic congestion in the city.
