Finally, the state infrastructure development agency has appointed a contractor who will build a memorial of Babasaheb Ambedkar which is worth ₹783 crore and is considered the ambitious project of the state. The contractor who has bagged the deal is none other than Shapoorji Pallonji group who will be building the memorial, confirmed U P S Madan, Commissioner, Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Developmental Authority.

The memorial will be built on a 12-acre plot at Indu Mill in Dadar where there will be a 35-ft-tall bronze statue of Ambedkar along with commemorative stupa, an auditorium, an assembly hall, a museum, a library, a landscaped garden and parking spaces.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the memorial on October 11, 2015.

Four months back, the MMRDA had invited tenders but only one contractor showed interest and that was Shapoorji Pallonji group. However, MMRDA had to cancel the tender as only one company showed up which does not fit the rules and regulations. This decision also delayed the project.

The same happened on November 2, 2017, when MMRDA asked for tenders, only Shapoorji Pallonji turned up. However, this time MMRDA did not cancel the tender and decided to go ahead with the tender as they believe that this will expedite the work.
