Until now, the beneficiaries under the Slum Rehabilitation Scheme were provided with a house of 269 square feet. However, Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has increased the area to 304 square feet and Maharashtra government had also issued a notification regarding this on September 21.

The state government initiated the slum rehabilitation scheme to make Mumbai slum-free and under this, slum dwellers will be provided with a flat. Earlier, after people protested, the flat’s area was changed from 225 square feet to 269. However, the area has again changed to 304 sq. feet.

Recently, Maharashtra government approved the development plan under the Development Control and Progress Rules – 2034. In this draft, changes in section 33 (10) of the SRA scheme were suggested and notification for the same was issued by the state government.

Under this plan, it has been decided to change the area of the houses from 25 sq. meter to 27.88 sq. m (304 square feet). SRA has approved the same and the work will start soon.
