The TBM emerging out today can be considered as one of the remarkable feats for Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) till date. Thus, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis congratulated MMRC team for their remarkable achievement.
What can be called as a historic moment for all Mumbaikars, the first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) finished its work and reached its destination on September 24 at 5:30 pm. The Metro-3 route (Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ) is currently being constructed and will consist of an underground route. Out of the 17 TBMs, the first cutter of the Marol-Airport route’s TBM was released at Mahim by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis last year on September 21.
However, a complete TBM was raced to Mumbai heart on November 10, 2017. After which, gradually 17 TBMs were released which began creating the way for the Metro-3 route.
The entire Metro-3 route is a 33.5 km-long route and will run between Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ. To construct the underground route, MMRC had exported 17 ‘state of the art’ technology TBMs. Eventually, it is expected that all the TBMs will complete their work within two years. The TBM that came out today was released in January 2018 and finished its work today.
For the past several years, the citizens of Mumbai have been expecting to see a change in infrastructure including transportation. The Railways have been truly the heart of the city’s transportation but now, it is time for us to search for better options and find other viable means of transport. If all goes well, Metro rail is expected to change the transportation scenario in the city and will assist the city towards an organised tomorrow.
On the occasion, CM Devendra Fadnavis stated that instead of making Mumbai like Shanghai, it must be our goal to thrive towards making Mumbai, a better city within the next three years. He also congratulated the entire team of MMRC on achieving the feat and finishing the work swiftly and precisely.
