The promenade along the Mumbai Coastal Road is likely to be completed by June 15. Once it is operational, the coastal road will remain open 24/7. Until then, the road will be open from 7 am to midnight.

This is because construction is still going on and machines and materials are moved during the night hours.

The promenade stretches 7.5 kilometres. It connects Priyadarshini Park to the Worli end of the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. The path is 20 metres wide. It will have space for walking, jogging, and cycling.

As per reports, Reliance Industries will take care of 70 hectares of open space on the southern stretch. This plan is part of the Mumbai Coastal Road Project. Five companies had submitted their expressions of interest. These were Jindal, Raymond, Vedanta, Torres, and Reliance. After evaluation, Reliance was selected.

Officials say Reliance met all the rules for selection. The company is working under its corporate social responsibility programme. It will not earn money from the project. The plan has not yet received administrative approval.

Reliance will share a detailed plan after getting the green signal. The final nod must come from Bhushan Gagrani, the municipal commissioner. He is currently on leave and will return next week.

Underpasses and bike lanes will help people access it from different places. Officials expect it to become a major public spot after Marine Drive. Tata Sons is handling the beautification of the central 5-hectare section.

The BMC has planned many public features for the open space. These include open-air gyms, running tracks, cycling paths, yoga zones, parks for senior citizens, butterfly gardens, and Miyawaki forests. There will also be amphitheatres. The cost is expected to be at least Rs 400 crore. The funding will come from CSR.

Both sides of the 10.58-kilometre Mumbai Coastal Road are already open to vehicles. This road goes from the Princess Street Flyover to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link. But work on nearby open areas is still in progress.
