Several police families living in the staff quarters at Naigoan, NM Joshi and Worli's BDD chawls had opposed the redevelopment plan proposed by the state government earlier. As per reports, these families were living in the locality from January 2011, and considering their displeasure about the plan, the Ministry of Home and Housing has decided to provide ownership flats  in the newly developed buildings.

It is being said that the flats will be 500 sq.ft in area and decision has been taken by the officials based on the recommendations made by the committee. The concerned department had issued notifications regarding the matter in August 2021. Two  petitions were filed earlier by the families expressing concerns over the redevelopment project, basis which a committee was formed for further guidance and action.

Report regarding the same has been published in the Free Press Journal, which states that the Commissioner of Police will also be informing the Bombay High Court (HC) regarding the decision of providing the ownership houses, as this will help in resolving the petitions filed. The detailed list about the policemen and their respective families will be provided by the Mumbai Police, post which documents will be verified and presented to MHADA for the next set of actions.

A few ceremonies were also performed recently by current CM Uddhav Thackeray and former CM Devendra Fadnavis at Worli's Jamboree Maidan for the proposed redevelopment project, but the project work did not begin as the families opposed the same and did not support the decision taken by the government.

A notification was issued by the government regarding the same which mentioned that MHADA's work in this step has been eliminated as the Mumbai Police will have to take the responsibility for the list and verifications. Over 3,000 families are currently living at the police staff quarters located in Naigoan, Worli and NM Joshi BDD chawls. This decision to provide them with the houses is expected to ease the matter and give them the much-needed relief.
