Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday, June 29, directed officials to ensure that nobody becomes homeless while redeveloping BDD (Bombay Development Directorate) chawls.

He also directed to set up a ministerial committee to take strategic decisions regarding police residences.

In a meeting held at his official residence, Varsha, Thackeray also instructed the authorities to prepare a plan for redevelopment and rehabilitation of police residences.

The meeting was attended by state Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil, Housing Minister Jitendra Awhad, Tourism Minister Aaditya Thackeray, state chief secretary Sitaram Kunte, Mumbai Commissioner of Police Hemant Nagrale, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashish Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary to the Home Department Manukumar Srivastava, MHADA Vice President Anil Diggikar along with former MLAs Sachin Ahir and other senior officials.

The issue of providing accommodations to retired police personnel and kin of the deceased cops living in BDD chawls in the redeveloped structures was also discussed at the meeting.

CM Thackeray also stated that no one will be deprived of rehabilitation in BDD Chaal redevelopment. The redevelopment of BDD Chali is an ambitious project. So there are efforts to complete it in a planned manner.

Some of the residences given to the police personnel here are owned by the families of the deceased employees and also by the retired employees. In redevelopment, the number of police service residences should be kept intact, and sympathetic consideration should also be given to the families of police personnel currently residing. A plan should also be prepared for the houses to be made available through MHADA through redevelopment and their allocation to the police, Thackeray directed the authorities.
