The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recently took to Twitter to falsify the claims of the jumbo facility in Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) being damaged due to the cyclone Nisarga. The BMC in its statement added photos and said that there has only been minor damage in the fence, adding that the hospital structure is sound and can be made operational in no time.

In the wake of the Cyclone Nisarga, the BMC on Wednesday called for a structural inspection of temporary COVID-19 health centres. In order to take a precautionary measure, the civic body had earlier directed the contractors of the respective healthcare facilities to review the safety and stability of the structures that were set up by them.

In other news, the animals at Mumbai’s Byculla Zoo in Mumbai were also moved into safety. Animals including tiger, leopard, hyena, various reptiles, and others were moved into their holding areas in order to safeguard them. The BMC stated that these holding areas in the Veer Mata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan, commonly known as the Byculla Zoo would protect the animals and reptiles from any damage caused by the uprooted trees.

Furthermore, the BMC had deployed a 20-member emergency response team which includes animal keepers, security staff in the holding areas to look after the species. The civic body had also provided tree trimming machines and other equipment in order to tackle any unforeseen incidents caused by the cyclone. In addition, CCTV cameras had also been installed to monitor the cyclone-prone areas inside the zoo.

The Mumbai Police on Wednesday had imposed Section 144 in the city from midnight to Thursday afternoon, in the wake of the tropical storm Nisarga. The police also banned citizens from visiting places like beaches, parks, and promenades along the coastline. Citizens were further asked to stay at home and remain vigilant to keep themselves safe.
