Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray directed the state administration to prepare a separate plan to preserve and conserve different forts in Maharashtra, On Thursday, October 28. Thackeray had conducted a meeting with the steering committee. He told the officials that the forts have to be preserved and conserved.

In July, a steering committee headed by the state CM was set up to monitor the conservation work of these six forts. Earlier this year, six forts were selected in the first phase for their conservation and preservation, and Thackeray reviewed them in the meeting. The six forts are Shivneri, Rajgad, Torna, Vijaydurg, Sindhudurg and Sudhagad forts.

He has asked the officials to set up six different committees for these six forts comprising experts and organisations who will work for its conservation. He further said that the plan that would be prepared should not in any way affect the original structure. The plan must also include the funds required, the time duration for completion of the work, and the material for conservation.

He announced that the state government would give INR 50 lakhs to preserve Ginjee Fort in Tamil Nadu. It is where Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj ruled for eight years.
