The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation crossed its 39th milestone through the conclusion of its 1,117.5 meters of upline drive of tunneling. This endeavour has been completed from the Science Museum Metro Station to the Mahalaxmi Metro Station, along the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ Metro-3 corridor.

The tunnel boring machine, curated by the Robbins Company, Tansa-2 through the aid of 745 concrete rings, took approximately 257 days to complete the work.

Some reports state that Ranjit Singh Deol the MMRC Managing Director, mentioned the challenging nature of this task, as the tunneling that was undertaken laid below a stretch of buildings over 80 years old. He is also said to have stated that the tunneling stretch, lay beneath the western railway track amid the Mahalaxmi and Lower Parel railway stations. He lauded his team for efficiently undertaking the arduous task.

The longest stretch of the corridor encompasses Mumbai Central, Mahalaxmi, Science Museum, Acharya Atre Chowk and Worli Metro stations. The stretch has attained three milestones which include the Science Museum to Worli and Science Museum to Mahalaxmi. The earlier upline is 2072m, and the downline is 2057 m, whilst the latter’s upline is 1117.5m.

The general tunneling concluded in the said passage is 52.6km (approximately 96.5% of the entire project).
