With the Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presenting the budget for the financial year 2021-2022, INR 64,000 crores have been allocated for the Mumbai-Kanyakumari highway.

Moreover, Sitharaman informed that INR 2,092 has been allocated for the Nashik Metro and INR 5,976 for the Nagpur Metro in Maharashtra.

In this year's Union Budget, provision has been made for the Mumbai to Kanyakumari highway. The 1,760 km long Mumbai-Kanyakumari Highway is being developed under the Bharatmala Project. In addition, highways worth INR 50,000 crore are being developed across the country as part of the Mumbai-Kanyakumari Economic Corridor under the Bharatmala project.

Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone of seven highway projects worth INR 11,571 crores in Kerala back in October. He also started a 27 km long highway project between Kazkottam and Mukola. According to sources, currently, priority is being given to world-class transport facilities. For this, schemes like Bharatmala project are being implemented in the country.

Under the Bharatmala project, a roadmap has been prepared to improve port road connectivity in the country. Moreover, this project is considered to be the largest project in the country so far. According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, major corridors such as Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Delhi-Amritsar Katra Expressway, Chennai-Bengaluru Expressway will be developed under the India project.

The Mumbai-Kanyakumari highway route starts at Panvel, at the junction of National Highway 48 (old NH4), and ends at Kanyakumari. NH-66 mainly traverses through the west coast of India, sometimes touching the shores of the Arabian Sea. The NH66 touches the Arabian Sea at Maravanthe in Karnataka, Thalassery, Alappuzha and Kollam in Kerala. Moreover, it passes through the Indian states of Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
