Following a 23-second video posted on Twitter by photographer and producer Atul Kasbekar about the sorry state of the Mumbai - Nashik National Highway (NH-3), Yuva Sena has asked to suspend toll collection on this road. Yuva Sena happens to be the youth wing of Shiv Sena.

Kasbekar’s tweet read - I actually want to know just where the millions collected for the apparent upkeep of this goes?!? And stop calling it an expressway!”

Secretary of Yuva Sena, Varun Sardesai has written to the Central Road and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari requesting prompt action to fix this vital stretch of road.

“The ongoing monsoon has created crater-sized potholes on this highway. You must be aware this highway is an important connection between two metro cities of Mumbai and Nashik and sees a lot of heavy vehicle movement. Monsoons, potholes, and heavy vehicle transport all put together are causing accidents almost every day," Sardesai’s letter said.

He also drew attention to the increasing road traffic on the stretch mostly due to the fact that trains remain suspended across several parts of the state. He added that the sorry state of the road also makes it prone to more accidents.

Recently, landslides were reported at the Western Express Highway near Kandivali after heavy rainfall in the region. As for the state of the Mumbai-Nashik Expressway, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has said that the agency regrets the inconvenience caused to the commuters due to the 10% of bad stretches on the path, which feels like an understatement considering the ground reality.
