The 6th Annual Chikoo Festival took place at the S. R. Save Camping Grounds, Bordi Beach, Dahanu in Maharashtra. It was a two-day event which started on January 27 and ended on January 28, Sunday. It was a resounding success, even more so than the previous years, and boosted the local morale.

In 2013, MTDC initiated the festival in order to promote tourism in the area and received the support of the State Agricultural Department and other local organisations.

The Chikoo Safari which involved visits to chikoo farms and flower farms painted a beautiful picture of the local agricultural landscape. The Chikoo winery tour, one of the first of its kind, allowed those taking the tour to explore chikoo wine processing. Besides these tours, there were activities organised for those who wanted to stay closer to the vicinity, such as creating a Warli village experience, playing beach kabbadi and ghodiya cricket, and getting to know the community of chikoo lovers.

Spread over the two days, there were Sand Castle workshops, workshops on old games, Warli Painting, Pottery, Cane, Date Leaves and Rangoli workshops. Each workshop focused on teaching the participants a new and unique skill, some of which mirror local skill and the others local taste.

One of the main attractions was, of course, the array of performances lined up over both the days to entertain and enthrall the crowd. The performances were inaugurated by an Opening Dance Act by the Punit Dance Academy and the Yogini Dance Group. The Vaidya Group performed local folk pieces.

The chikoo fruit is a major source of revenue in this region, and this festival has successfully celebrated it while combining elements of a cultural exhibition, food market, flea market, and a live performance.
