The BMC has also proposed to set up a digital telescope and mini observatory to give students a first-hand experience of space science. A budget allocation of Rs 26 lakh has been made for the same.

The richest civic authority of the country, the BMC in 2016-17 had presented its highest-ever budget of Rs 37,052 crores. However, it slashed the budget size by about Rs 12,000 crore in the subsequent year 2017-18 by presenting a budget of Rs 25,141 crores, calling it "realistic". It further increased it to Rs. 30,692 crores for the year 2019-2020.
BMC had proposed Rs. 44 crores as capital investment for the BEST undertaking and allocated Rs. 3 crores for providing 50 per cent concession to senior citizens travelling in the buses.
Rs 30,692-crore budget was allotted for infrastructure out of which the BMC had set aside funds for mega projects, including coastal road (Rs 1,600 crore), cycle track (Rs 120 crore), Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (Rs 100 crore), waste-to-energy plant at Deonar (Rs 100 crore), repairs of bridges (Rs 108 crore), zoo development works (Rs 110 crore) and solid waste management (Rs 177 crore).
In the budget presented by former Commissioner Ajoy Mehta in 2019, Rs 4,151 crores was allotted for health and Rs 2,074 crores for primary education.
