Due to political rivalry, a violent incident took place in Dadar in 2005. In this case, a special court has acquitted MP Ravindra Waikar and 28 workers of the then undivided Shiv Sena for lack of evidence.

After being expelled from the Shiv Sena led by Bal Thackeray, sitting MP Narayan Rane had announced his joining the Congress at that time. Then on July 24, 2005, a crowd gathered at Jakha Devi Chowk in Dadar to protest. After some time, the mob turned violent and pelted stones at the police, their vehicles, and BEST buses. As a result, a law and order situation prevailed in the area. A case of rioting was registered against Waikar and other accused in this case.

Additional Sessions Judge Satyanarayan Navander, who handles cases filed against MPs and MLAs, while delivering the verdict in the case, acquitted Waikar and other accused of rioting, illegal assembly and other charges. Apart from Waikar, other accused include Sena leaders Mahesh Sawant and Vishakha Raut. The court, while acquitting the accused, said in its verdict that it cannot be said with certainty whether the accused were part of an unlawful mob that was rioting.

The entire city was in danger on the day of the incident due to political rivalry between two political groups. Despite the heavy deployment of police forces, many people were injured and public property was damaged. However, the court also noted that the accused's involvement has not been identified. Therefore, they are being released.

According to the ruling party, a crowd of 100 to 150 Shiv Sena workers gathered in the Jakha Devi Chowk area in Dadar to block the road and protest despite the prohibitory orders in force. The mob turned violent and attacked police personnel. BEST buses were damaged in the incident.
