Ceiling of Sahyadri Guest House collapses; Aaditya Thackeray has a narrow escape

Aaditya Thackeray and other officials were in a meeting in the evening on Friday, June 4, 2021, and a few minutes after Aaditya left, a part of the false ceiling collapsed at the guest house. No injuries were reported.

Tourism Minister of Maharashtra, Aaditya Thackeray, and other government officials, on Friday, June 4, 2021, escaped an incident during a meeting at the Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai. As per reports, a huge chandelier collapsed along with the part of the false ceiling in the evening when Aaditya Thackeray and other officials from the government were in a meeting at the hall number 4 of the guest house.

Authorities confirmed that the officials were immediately taken to the safe place and no injuries were reported.

Sahyadri Guest House is one of the most visited locations by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, cabinet ministers and others officials. During the lockdown, several meetings are arranged here on a frequent basis. The structure is around 25 years old and the recently conducted audit mentioned that there was no risk at the building. 

However, this incident has raised concerns among the officials. Several members from the government have called for another audit and have told that action needs to be taken against the contractor for poor quality of work.

Teams from the PWD department rushed to the spot, post which a survey of the entire guest house and and audit was directed. The department has been asked to check for the structural threats and damages if need at the guest houses and other offices where meetings are held usually.
