Actress Payal Ghosh joins Ramdas Athawale's RPI party

Actress Payal Ghosh on Monday formally joined the Republican Party of India (RPI) - A, which is led by Union minister Ramdas Athawale. Ghosh has been garnering headlines after she accused film-maker Anurag Kashyap of sexual harassment. She has been named as the vice president of women's wing of the RPI.

RPI had organised a press conference at their office on Monday and Ramdas Athawale announced the appointment of Payal Ghosh as the party's women vice-president during the same. He also said that Payal will work for the growth of the party.

Apart from Ghosh, Soni Kanishka, lawyer Nitin Satpute, realtor Yogesh Karkera and businessman Ankush Chaphekar also joined the Republican Party of India (A) in this same function. 

Payal expressed gratitude for Athawale on Twitter as she wrote "Thank you @RamdasAthawale Sir for standing by me and supporting me," Payal tweeted along with pictures from the meeting at Athawale's office in Mumbai.

In conversation with media, she further shared that, "I am feeling good because I have always wanted to help the orphanage kids. In the past, I have spent my birthday and Diwali with underprivileged kids, so I always wanted to help people".

 Payal Ghosh had lodged a complaint against director Anurag Kashyap at Versova police station in September 2020 and alleged him of sexual harassment. After this incident, Athawale who is the Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment had visited her and extended his support to the actress. He had even met Mahrathtra's governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and demanded that some action should be taken against Kashyap.
