Constitution Day 2021: All You Need To Know About Its Significance

Constitution Day which is also known as National Law Day is celebrated yearly on November 26 to observe the adoption of the Constitution of India.

The Constitution of India was adopted by the Constituent Assembly on this day in 1949. However, it came into force on 26 January 1950 which is why Republic Day is celebrated across the country on the said day.

The first session of the Constituent Assembly was conducted on December 9. It took the assembly nearly three years to draft the constitution.

Back in May 2015, the Central Cabinet proclaimed that Constitution Day will be celebrated on November 26, to develop constitutional values amongst the citizens. This was part of the year-long celebration of Dr B R Ambedkar’s 125th birth anniversary.

Additionally, on Thursday, November 25, Kiren Rijiju the Law Minister also initiated an online program on the course of the Indian Constitution, as part of the festivities.

According to reports, this year’s Constitution Day will be commemorated in the Parliament’s central hall. This will be part of the “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The event will be presided by President Ram Nath Kovind. It will also be attended by Vice President Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, amongst others.

On Friday, November 26, however, news agency ANI reported that 14 parties including Congress, will be boycotting the Constitution Day function being conducted in the Central Hall of the Parliament.
