On the backdrop of increasing diesel and petrol prices, Congress announced Bharat Bandh on Monday i.e. September 10, 2018. Congress received support of 21 political parties which included Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) party as well. As per the Congress party, the bandh will begin post 9:00 am.

Congress party leader Randeep Surjewala said that they decided the time with regards to people who will not face any inconvenience. He said that Congress is only demanding to bring petrol and diesel prices in the ambit of Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Congress has claimed that for Bharat Bandh, other political parties such as Samajwadi party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Nationalist Congress Party, DMK, Communist party, Janata Dal Secular, MNS and other are supporting the bandh.
