Considering the rumours that have spread in the state, Dairy Development Minister Sunil Kedar informed that the people to beware of unwarranted news which has spread through social media and other platforms.

Officials from the state government of Maharashtra have confirmed that the cases of Bird flu across the state are now under control, and have appealed to the citizens to not be afraid and be careful. Furthermore, they have stated that the virus does not spread through eating chicken meat, eggs or fish.

Considering the rumours that have spread in the state Dairy Development Minister Sunil Kedar informed that one can eat meat, eggs and fish, and also appealed the people to beware of unwarranted news which has spread through social media and other platforms.

To ensure safety, officials have asked the people to:
  • Avoid contact with bird droppings as well as faeces
  • Arrange cages for birds and hens and the pots in which they are fed daily
  • Wash such utensils daily with detergent powder
  • Properly dispose of the remaining meat
  • Not touch it the bird with bare hands incase it dies
  • Inform the District and Divisional Control Room immediately
  • Wash hands frequently with soap and water when working with raw poultry products
  • Maintain personal hygiene. Keep the premises clean
  • Use masks and gloves when working with raw chicken or chicken products
  • Eat fully cooked meat only
  • Report the location to the concerned officials in the Forest Department or Animal Husbandry Department if there are reservoirs or lakes in the area and are often visited by birds
On the other hand, officials have asked people to NOT:
  • Eat raw chicken or raw eggs.
  • Eat half-cooked meat, chicken or half-boiled eggs
  • Come in contact with anyone or any animal that looks sick
  • Combine fully cooked meat and raw meat.

Citizens are requested to call toll free telephone number 18002330418 immediately if crows, parrots, herons or migratory birds are found dead in any of the localities or anything reported from a commercial poultry farm. In case needed, the nearest veterinary clinic can also be contacted. Moreover, the toll-free telephone number 18002330418 of the Commissionerate of Animal Husbandry should be used to share the information immediately, said Minister Kedar.
