Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Devendra Fadnavis on Monday took a dig at Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over his “three-wheeler (auto-rickshaw) government” remark saying that the driver doesn’t get to decide the destination.

“Those who sit at the back decided where the auto-rickshaw will go, not the driver,” Fadnavis taunted Thackeray while speaking in the meeting with office-bearers of BJP’s state unit.

This was the first meeting of the newly appointed state executive of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The meeting was attended by several leaders including Praveen Darekar who is the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council.

His remarks come after Thackeray said that he holds a firm grip on his government and was in control of its steering wheel. The Chief Minister was speaking to Shiv Sena leader and Executive Editor of ‘Saamana’ Sanjay Raut.

Even though the MVA government is being referred by the opposition as a ‘three-wheeler’ rickshaw government, the important thing is that these wheels are moving in one direction, Thackeray said while adding that the steering was in his hand while other two were sitting behind.

Reacting to this, Fadnavis said that the one who has steering is his hand while driving an auto-rickshaw doesn’t get to decide the destination. The people who sit at the passenger sit get to decide it, he added.

On the allegations of ‘Operation Lotus’ levelled by Thackeray, Fadnavis said that the BJP was interested in overthrowing the MVA government. “We are going to focus on the battle against coronavirus. But why shout every day? Try to run the government at least,” Fadnavis, LoP in Maharashtra Legislative Assembly said.

Meanwhile, the debate of rift among MVA allies intensified after Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar shared a photo on his Twitter handle to wish the Chief Minister on his birthday.

In the photo, Thackeray and Pawar can be seen sitting in a car while the steering wheel is in the hands of the Deputy Chief Minister.
