Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Kirit Somaiya on Wednesday informed that he was released from Mulund Police station this evening. Earlier today, Somaiya claimed that he was arrested by Mumbai Police from his residence premises in Nilam Nagar, Mulund East.

Taking to Twitter, Somaiya informed about his released while alleging that Thane Police is not allowing him to meet Anant Kurmuse. The BJP leader was scheduled to meet Kurmuse this morning.

Somaiya, a three-time MP, claimed that Anant Karmuse was beaten up by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Awhad’s men at the latter’s bungalow.

Kirit Somaiya earlier alleged that he has been arrested by Mumbai Police from Nilam Nagar in Mulund while stating that he is being stopped from going to the residence of Anant Karmuse. Somaiya said that he is being taken to Navnagar Police Station in Mulund East.

As this happened, BJP MP Gopal Shetty and Praveen Darekar opposition leader in Maharashtra Legislative Council went to meet Kirit Somaiya. The BJP leader claimed that the three of them were being stopped by Thane Police to meet Anant Kurmuse.

Earlier, a 40-year-old year man named Anant Karmuse filed a police complaint alleging that he has been beaten by the men of Maharashtra Minister Jitendra Awhad at his bungalow.

Karmuse, an engineer by profession, has alleged that the policemen took him to NCP leader Jitendra Awhad’s bungalow instead of the police station where the minister’s men thrashed him with a bamboo stick and belt. The man, in his complaint, has also alleged that Jitendra Awhad was also present.

Karmuse had posted a morphed photo with Jitendra Awhad’s face and a lit-up match stick with a caption, “I protest against the person who has edited the photo.”

This happened on April 5 when Prime Minister Narendra Modi had asked people to light candles and ‘diyas’ to fight the “darkness of the coronavirus”.
