Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council Pravin Darekar has slammed Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray over the death of a journalist due to COVID-19.
Targeting the Chief Minister, Darekar said that Uddhav Thackeray is the first CM of Maharashtra to stay at home. “This is why the outcry of the general public is not able to reach his ears,” the BJP leader added while alleging that the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has failed in handling the COVID-19 situation.
On Wednesday, a Pune-based journalist died and his family members have alleged that they didn’t get the ambulance on time. Reacting to this, Darekar said that the state government has “messed up” the handling of COVID-19 situation and the journalist’s death was its latest example.
“The state of the healthcare system in Maharashtra is messed up. Not everyone gets treatment on time. The condition in the hospitals is deplorable. The Chief Minister went to Pune and inaugurated a COVID centre. A journalist died in Pune and a simple ambulance couldn’t be made available,” Darekar said.
Attacking the Chief Minister for staying at home, Darekar said that everyone including BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar is touring across the state but Uddhav Thackeray doesn’t have time to step out of his house.
“Thackeray is working from home. He doesn’t even attend meetings in Mantralaya which is not far from his house in Bandra. This is not in the best interest of the state,” he said.
Darekar said that the Chief Minister doesn’t even have the time to visit the flood-affected areas in the state. There is a huge dissatisfaction among people over this, he added.
