Maharashtra Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Chandrakant Patil has finally admitted that the meeting between former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut was ‘political’.
While talking to the reporters, Patil on Monday said that the leaders of the two former allies - BJP and Shiv Sena - met and a political discussion was held between them.
“If top leaders of two different political parties meet, political discussions are held. If they sat together for nearly 2.5 hours, they didn’t discuss tea-biscuits,” Patil said.
On September 26, the meeting between the two leaders has sparked speculations in the political circles. Earlier, the BJP has said that they will be ready to form an alliance with the Shiv Sena in future.
This meeting came amid the tussle between BJP and Shiv Sena which started over the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. For the past few months, the BJP in Maharashtra has constantly tried to corner the Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government while siding with Bollywood Actress Kangana Ranaut.
Patil, however, said that the discussion held between Fadnavis and Raut were inconclusive. He ruled out the possibility of BJP joining hands with Shiv Sena to form government in Maharashtra saying that his party is playing the role of active opposition.
The BJP leader further said that Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress (NCP) can't stay together and will break up. "This is my analysis. Midterm elections may happen," Patil claimed.
Earlier, Maharashtra BJP chief spokesperson Keshav Upadhyay cleared the air and said that there was no political angle to the meeting. He said that Raut asked Fadnavis to do an interview for ‘Saamana’ and the meeting was held to discuss the same.
“Former Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut met. Raut expressed his desire to interview Fadnavis and it was decided to meet once for this interview,” Upadhyay had said.
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Maharashtra Legislative Council, Pravin Darekar had informed that Fadnavis has demanded that the interview should be unedited and should be held after the Bihar assembly elections.
