On Tuesday, November 23, BJP Dahisar MLA Manisha Chaudhari said that the Shiv-Sena led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government failed to ensure political reservation for the Other Backward Classes (OBC) in Maharashtra.

Manisha Chaudhari, along with her party colleague Niranjan Davkhare was addressing the media on Tuesday. They alleged that the Shiv-Sena led government did not sponsor the empirical data required to retain the reservations.

The local body elections are scheduled to take place next year. Owing to this, the BJP has started a campaign to mobilise its community and hold the government responsible for the failure of reservations.

Chaudhari further said that the Supreme Court (SC) had asked the Maharashtra government to present the empirical data. However, the state failed to sponsor around INR 450 crore required for the data to be collated. Since the government failed to act in time, OBCs are unlikely to get a proper representation in the polls.

The government should stop misleading the community, she added.

Meanwhile, the BMC elections can likely be postponed as the civic body is expected to undertake a fresh exercise of remapping its wards from northwest to southeast Mumbai, owing to the Maharashtra cabinet's decision to increase the number of corporators from 227 to 236
