The Maratha community carried out more than 50 silent protests across Maharashtra demanding for the reservation in jobs and education, yet the state government did not act on it, believed protestors who became violent resulting in vandalising buses and torching police vans.

In response to the Mumbai ‘bandh’ protest by Maratha Kranti Morcha (MKM), Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis assured the protestors that government will work in favour of the Maratha community’s welfare and appealed them to preserve peace.

CM Fadnavis released a statement and said that the state government is ready to discuss with the agitators.

MKM protestors continued violent demonstration for Maratha reservation. On Tuesday, they had announced a ‘bandh’ in Mumbai and nearby areas. The protestors kept protesting till Wednesday afternoon after which MKM drew back the ‘bandh’ and subsequently, CM released his statement which invited MKM for a discussion.

Fadnavis said, "The government has taken note of the Maratha movement and is ready to talk to them. The government had made several decisions regarding reservation for the Maratha community, but the matter is currently ongoing in the High Court.”

Meanwhile, Maharashtra Congress President Ashok Chavan demanded that a special assembly session should be held for the issue of Maratha reservation.
